Volunteer Recognition

Friday, December 9th Peacemaker held our annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner at the Hart’s Hill Inn in Whitesboro.
We recognized all our great volunteers, but three were recognized for their special achievements:
►Dan Gruen: Dispute Resolution Volunteer of the Year
►Linda Gifford: Advocacy Volunteer of the Year
►Alice Amedeo: SDMC Volunteer of the Year
►Paul Deep: Attorney for the Child of the Year
►Brenda Episcopo: Special Honoree
A tip of the hat and a hearty well done to you all. Thanks for your dedication and commitment to our program.
Many thanks to all those who worked so hard to make this a great event. Beverly Quist, Tracy Soules, Molly Pulver and magical decorations by Sue Warwick; and of course our wonderful staff: Lisa, Ronde, John, Julie, Jackie and Mark. Great work, guys!

Come to The Table

Come to The Table is a weekend event and a fundraiser for The Peacemaker Program. Between thirty and fifty tables are created and donated by local table designers, and displayed for the event's audience. Each table is auctioned off to the highest bidder, or can be purchased outright at any time during the event. In addition to the table designs, there is dinner, dancing, musical entertainment, wine tasting, giveaways, and an opportunity to shop select local craft vendors.
This will be the ninth year for this event in the Mohawk Valley, which takes place on Friday and Saturday March 9th and 10th at Hart's Hill Inn in New Hartford.
We are still looking for a few talented members of the community to submit designs for this event in March. It is a unique and fun event. Plan on attending even if you don’t design a table.
Tickets to the Premier Party on Friday night are $60 each. For larger groups, a Premier Party Six-Pack is available for $300. Admission for the Main Event on Saturday is $5, and tickets are available at the door.

Our New Look

The Peacemaker Program has a new look! The Board of Directors is taking Peacemaker in a forward direction by modernizing our logo and making it more meaningful and recognizable.
We are entering a new era within the organization. The Peacemaker Program continues to diversify its funding sources in order to keep on providing services to our community at low or no cost. This includes expanding our expert Conflict Consultation Services, which are offered to other agencies, businesses and schools for a fee.
Our new tag line “Proven Conflict Solutions” is an outcome-based phrase that perfectly exemplifies the future focus of The Peacemaker Program. It helps to explain, in a simple slogan, what the program is about to someone who knows nothing about us.
Welcome Aboard
Lisa DesGrosielliers first joined our staff in 2007, and served for years as the ADR Assistant. After a brief absence, Lisa is proud to be working as the CASA-CCAP Coordinator. Lisa says, “I like the idea of working independently and being empowered by the courts and knowing that I can make a difference for a child in foster care. When I get a case, I know I will be the one consistent adult in this child’s life; vigilantly fighting for and protecting their fundamental right to be treated with the dignity and respect every child deserves. I enjoy taking a case and seeing it all the way through. And in doing so, I enrich my life as well.”
We welcome Julie Falatico to the office as our mediation and advocacy assistant. Julie is a trained mediator, jazz singer and motivational speaker. In her own words: “I sing at restaurants and private clubs and parties with wonderfully talented musicians. My favorite genre of music to sing is Jazz Standards. I also facilitate empowerment workshops at local organizations; helping people to overcome difficult life challenges by way of spirituality, creativity and humor…I can’t live without funny.”
Did You Know?¿
...that The Peacemaker Program has a team of highly trained mediators that can help couples navigate through their New York State no fault divorce?
...that The Peacemaker Program handles the conflict disputes between the Utica Police Department and the community?
...that The Peacemaker Program wrangles gorillas for the Utica Zoo? (OK, not really, just making sure you were reading for comprehension!)
Conflict BuZz
Have you ever had a fight with someone and had no idea why it escalated to the point it did, or how to react differently in that situation? Send us your story and we will respond to it in our next newsletter.
Conflict Tip►
BREATHE – That’s it. Remember to take the time to slow things down by simply breathing. Even Mike Tyson can breathe.
"Quotables"
“In mediation, we acknowledge the past, but focus on the future. We feel this new look perfectly symbolizes the future of The Peacemaker Program.”
